Bamboo Ladle by Shimomoto Kazuho

This is an amazing kitchen utencil made of mostly bamboo. A great original design sekillfuly created by artistic craftsmanship.

 

Scooping part and handle stem are carved out from a single piece of bamboo. Scoop is made from thick node, making use of its natural dent. The handle stem is made from fiber and steam-bent. 

 

Two different varieties of bamboo are used; Madake for the scoop and stem, Shihochiku for the handle. Shihochiku's canes are naturally square (four sided) instead of common round. Shimomoto made use of this rare variety in an very interesting way.

 

This ladle is ideal if you have large enamel or cast iron pots and don't want to scratch its inside de as metal ladles would. And it is far better than using heatproof plastic alternatives.

 

The bamboo materials were smoked by the maker's kiln to add durability as well as resistance to bacteria and mold.

 

Bamboo is a very special and interesting plant that has been utilized in many ways in Asia. 

With its highly resistant nature to humidity, every Japanese household used to have kitchen tools made of bamboo.

    Bamboo is highly resistant to humidity.  Howerver we recommend to let the item air-dried completely after use.
