Akebia place mat
Based on the art of Japanese vernacular weaving, this item would make perfect placemat for rustic or country table. Alternatively, just beautiful as wall hanging.
Akebia quinata - also called Chocolate vine - is a semi-evergreen climbing shrub native to East Asia. It has been used for basketry weaving for hundreds of years in a similar way to willow, except Akebia is twining and much thinner.
Akebia vine is hard wearing and will last for many decades, only ageing beautifully with an added natural glow. We recommend to touch and use these items as often as you can.
The material used is all sustainably and responsibly foraged by the artist, Watanabe Moe, in the mountain area in Yamagata, Japan.
