Cotton Drink Mat

Sold as a pair. You will receive two drink mats.

Back side is solid grey colour of the same fabric with the front.
 
This cotton pongee (tsumugi) fabric  was woven by old  shuttle looms, expertly operated by hand. 
Not much has changed over 100 years at the small mill in Enshu which is one of Japan's important textile bases.
 
Traditional shuttle looms require highly-skilled manual operation. Its finished fabrics are less smooth but has rich and airy texture.
Many neps (the irregularities such as lumps) are also seen on the fabric.
These days, shuttle machines are mostly replaced by the shuttleless alternatives to weave faster, more productively and uniformly.
