Maple Wood Tray by Kitayama Eita
This item is hand turned from single piece of Maple wood.
Made as functional ware and food safe. It would be perfect to style with tea set or as cheese board.
Beautiful graphite colour comes from Pomegranate and iron dioxide dye on the original wood. It changes its shade and depth at angle, showing the unique qualities of the grain and curvature of the wood.
The surface is finished with liquid glass. It will not only make this item food safe and free from oil stains, but also help retain its colour for many years, become maintenance free, water resistant, and unlikely to decay.
Liquid glass is a relatively new nano-technology coating formula using exactly the same materials used in glass. Read more about it on blog.
This piece has a very small crack as a character of the wood used, which is only visible from the back of the tray, and thoughtfully mended with a tiny brass rivet on the side by the artist.
