About the Artist
Sugimoto Sanae's understated, yet highly poetic drawings evoke imagination and narrative to the viewers. Based in Japan, she has a fan base all around the world.
Most of her recent works are drawn on paper with only black and orange inks (sumi) which were originally made for calligraphy.
After completed painting course at art college in Kyoto, Sanae had settled in her hometown. Recently she moved to Fukuoka, where she draws and takes selected commissions of artwork.
A collection of Sanae's drawings was published as "Close Your Ears" in 2018.
