Maker: Takazawa Candle
 
The maker, Takazawa Candle was founded in 1892, and has been proudly family owned and independent. They produce high quality handmade and plant-based candles in the honest possible way in Nanao, Ishikawa, one of the important Budhist strongholds.  Although their grade-listed storefront and workshop suffered devastating damage from the 2024 new year's day earthquake, they swiftly reorganized  their business and are trying to reconstruct and conserve the building  that has been much loved with its iconic heritage appeal.
 
Tohaku candle is inspired by the monochrome painting titled 'Pine Trees' by Hasegawa Tohaku, who lived in the maker's local Nanao in 16th century. Candles are painstakingly hand dipped and made from the raw materials sustainably sourced in Japan.
