------------
This is a new addition to our broom range.
Only straight strings (Onige, meaning, hard bristles) of Shuro fibre are used for this broom. They are carefully selected and separated from the husks which are normally used "rolled" with other brooms. The process of preparing Onige requires extra skill and work, and it is reflected on the price of this broom.
Brooms with Onige bristles feel more flexible than others, and are valued as the top range of handcrafted shuro brooms.
Functional, sustainable and beautiful.
Made in Japan by skilled artisan
Shuro (Japanese Hemp Palm tree) fibre
+ mottled dark bamboo stick
+ copper wire
Shuro bark has thick layers of fibre, and has been used in many ways such as brushes, ropes, nets, marine fittings and thatching roofs, dating back several hundreds years. Shuro fibre is very flexible yet highly durable and long lasting. Each string of fibre is thin, soft, elastic and catches dust well, so it is ideal to sweep a tricky corner of the room.
The plant oil contained in fibre would help give natural glow on the floor, which is one of the reasons the Japanese people used shuro brooms to sweep tatami mats. Also it is free from static electricity unlike nylon brooms. Shuro fibre resists water very well, which made this tool even more useful for daily household chores in kitchen and bathroom, and after many years, in garden as well. This broom is meant to be used for 10 - 15 years.
The maker, Yamamoto Katsunosuke Shoten (known as Kane'ichi) is a family run broom maker established in 1880. Now the 3rd generation, the company is one of the most active and prominent as palm broom maker in Japan.
Please note each broom is slightly different because of the handmade nature and the natural material used.

Care
When not in use, hung the broom with the loop attached to the handle to retain the bristles' shape. Bristles would flare out and curl by touching the floor when stored.
We recommend to avoid leaving this item under direct sunlight.
When it is new, dust from palm bark would fall onto floor. It will be gone after a couple of times' sweeping.
